Hello Again, Friends of Spark!
It’s October —
Have you had a pumpkin-spice latté yet? Just joshin’. We know the world is divided between people who absolutely have to have pumpkin-spice anything and those who want to banish the flavor to the depths of the ocean (ugh, pumpkin-spice salt water!). But all of us can agree that we love Spark and want to help our little nonprofit serve people in East Tennessee who have disabilities. Here’s a rundown of ways you can have fun with Spark and do good, too!
Come Play with us at 4th Annual Fun Run & Roll
At this year’s Fun Run & Roll, we’re gonna be rollin’ on the river! Well technically, rolling – and running or walking – on the riverside! Join us in a beautiful, new-to-us setting, UT’s Cherokee Farm, nestled between Alcoa Highway and the Tennessee River, at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.
You can choose between a Knoxville Track Club-sanctioned 5k cross-country run or an easy 2-mile stroll or roll on a paved surface.
Bring your peeps for this family-friendly, community-bonding event. Meet at the Cherokee Farm Amphitheater, 2641 Osprey Vista Way, and then set out and enjoy the view! From Alcoa Highway, northbound or southbound, take the UT Research Park exit near the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Toys & More at Toy Tech 2024
One of our most beloved and enjoyable events is Toy Tech, a December tradition that reminds us that it is better to give than to receive. We distribute battery-operated toys whose switches have been adapted for kids who can’t manipulate a factory-installed switch.
Spark’s neighbors, the Knox Makers, adapt many of our toys for us, and our wonderful Santa (Gary Harmon) shares smiles and a toy with each child who attends.
We host a pizza party and games for our young guests and their families.

You can be part of the event by ordering a toy from our Amazon wish list.
We hope to reach 100 toys to benefit that number of children, even if they can’t make it to the party. We also welcome donations to help purchase food for the event.

Lend an Ear to Spark
Spark needs help on the front desk. We’re looking for volunteers to work a few hours a week answering phones and greeting visitors. If you have time to give, please consider taking a shift. We’re open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and you can pick a day and shift that suits you. Call Betsy at 865-219-0130 if you’re interested. Help us take care of our community!
